Can Life Sports Brings Pond Hockey to the Great Wall

December 12, 2018

The iconic Great Wall of China will be the backdrop of the 7th Annual Beijing Pond Hockey Tournament. Players and guests can expect a truly unique world-class ice hockey event on January 18-19, 2019, when adult teams from around the world compete and enjoy hockey in its purest form – on the natural frozen water beneath the Simatai Great Wall of China at Gu Bei Water Town. The tournament will take place Friday evening January 18, starting at 6:00PM, and continue all day Saturday, January 19, starting at 9:00AM.

Gu Bei Water Town is a luxury resort, designed with classic Chinese traditional architecture located approximately 150 kilometers northeast of downtown Beijing. The resort is beautifully situated under the Simatai section of the Great Wall of China, which is one of the most scenic and well-preserved sections of the wall still holding its original figure and character.

Pond hockey is a celebration of Canada’s favorite national pastime and a way for the hockey community in Beijing to share their love for the sport with the Chinese public. Players will dress up in costume to bring a fun and friendly flare to this intense and competitive sport. For many spectators, it’s going to be the first time they’ve seen hockey played the classic Canadian way.

We expect this event will reach new heights in 2019, creating memorable experiences for all involved. The tournament will be a spectacle, with an intention to inspire people from all over the world when they see and read about the beautiful game of hockey being played under one of the most iconic landmarks in human history. The tournament proves that the Canadian game knows no bounds and is open to everyone who wants to be a part of this tight-knit and diverse community.
